Discuss the Impact of Overseas Outsourcing Essay - 513 Words

In researching this subject it seems that outsourcing work overseas has a positive and negative effect on the US economy for a few different reasons. The most important I feel is taking the jobs away from the people in the United States. As we all know, especially at this time, jobs are not easy to find. There are some people that are under qualified for jobs available in the US that these jobs we are outsourcing could be done by these under qualified individuals. Companies’ main reason for this is to cut costs and save money. The conditions of the manufacturers in these foreign countries are known to not be the very best either. Sweatshops and having young children work for little money is how some of these manufacturers are able to†¦show more content†¦The most populace countries in the world, China and India, seem to be the two countries tapped into most for outsourcing. I’m pretty sure everyone has called into a call center at least once and reached some Indian person on the other end. The language barrier is evident. This has an impact on the level of quality service they can provide. â€Å"India appears to be a global business nightmare. People speak dozens of different languages throughout the country. Getting around is a challenge due to a terrible infrastructure. Foreign companies must deal with tight regulations on investment, slow bureaucratic culture, and the politics of family owned big- business. UPS delivery men, for example, must often ask for directions because there are no street numbers. (Williams, 2010). This is a perfect example of what is going on in foreign countries with which we are outsourcing business too. A bit scary if you ask me. Let’s talk about a positive aspect of outsourcing business. â€Å"Contractual Obligation: The liability of a service provider is higher than that of an in-house employee. Standardized Test and Informal Reading Assessments Essay

How well do standardized tests work as tools for obtaining information about children’s literacy strengths and needs? Standardized tests have both positive and negative uses as they pertain to obtaining information and what that information can be used for. The use of portfolios can also be used to guide instruction, and they can be used as informal or summative assessments. The use of both the standardized test as well as a student portfolio will give the teacher information that can be used to assess how well they are instructing as well as what areas they may still need more work in. There are many pros and cons as to whether or not there should be standardized testing. I do believe that standardized tests are fair and objective. These tests are designed to test a student’s knowledge on certain set standards that a child should know given what grade level that student is in. As to holding teachers and schools accountable, I believe this is where the biggest downfall of standardized testing lies. To hold a teacher accountable I believe that more than the test scores need to be looked at. An article in a Buffalo, New York newspaper supports my stance on this. One-third of high school students miss at least 20 percent of school days in a given year – the equivalent of seven weeks of school, according to a recent study by the district. And more than two out of five kindergartners miss more than three weeks of school. Caliban In The Tempest Essay There are many different things that as a director, I would need to say to Caliban to make the play run smoothly  In my opinion the first bit of action that I would give to Caliban is as follows: when Stephano says to him on line three servant monster, drink to me, Caliban should hesitate a bit, then shove the bottle to his mouth and gulp the alcohol down fast in order to get it down faster. Caliban is the victim of Stephano and Trinculo; they are forcing him to drink. It is not given to him as a form of relaxation; rather it is used in order to please the ones who are feeding him. The next piece is when Stephano says on line six, thy eyes are almost set in thy head. Caliban should open his eyes wide and act drowsy and partly oblivious to the surroundings around him. He should also have a very glazed expression on his face after drinking. In the next line of Stephano (line eleven), when he says, my man-monster hath drowned his tongue in sack Caliban should hang his tongue out of his mouth as if it is numb and he could possibly drool a bit before repositioning it back in his mouth. The next piece of performance that Caliban is to do is on line twenty-one when he says, let me lick thy shoe. Ill not serve him. He is not valiant! Here Caliban should literally kneel before Stephano and he should try to lick his shoe. Then stand up straightaway, jab his finger at Trinculo repeatedly whilst saying he is not valiant. (He can possibly, behind Stephanos back, make some actions to make Trinculo believe he will kill him). When Caliban then says in line twenty-eight, Lo, how he mocks me! Caliban should speak in a shrill voice to show that he is afraid. He could also stagger over to the corner of the stage and cower to add to this impression. As Caliban says in the next line, bite him to death, I prithee, Caliban should imitate biting someone. He should look angrily at Trinculo and pleadingly at Stephano as if to say, Please let me kill Trinculo. In line thirty-six, Stephano is agreeing to listen to Caliban repeat his request again. He says, Kneel and repeat it As soon as Stephano says this, Caliban should straight away kneel as if about to take an oath and he should clear his voice to enable himself to speak clearly on the next line. Whenever Ariel says, thou liest, Caliban should twist round angrily at Trinculo and lift a hand up in a fist in order to threaten him. The next part of stage directions is when Caliban says, Thou shalt be lord of it, and Ill serve thee. When Caliban says this he should bow down to Stephano and look at him in a respecting way! Also in line fifty-seven, where Caliban is thinking about violent fantasies he says, Where thou mayst knock a nail into his head, Caliban should lift his hand up as if to stab someone or to literally knock a nail into their head. Another performance line is when Caliban laughs ha, ha, ha. He should show exaggerated laughing, looking extremely happy with himself. He could also bang his hand on the floor as a result of laughing. Caliban has one of his longest speeches in the entire play now and in this speech there are a couple of different actions that he can do in it. First, when he is saying all the things he can do to Prospero to kill him he should actions to correspond to each of those murderous actions that he describes. Secondly, when he describing about Miranda, he should put his hand on his heart and put on puppy-dog eyes as if to describe just how pretty she actually is. Later on in line one hundred and seven he says, Wilt thou destroy him then? Caliban is to stagger in, draping his arms down, shivering. He is to look horrified and disgusted. By walking in like this, it shows how drunk they are and how they are absolutely horrified about whats happened. When Caliban says in line one hundred and ninety four Pray you, tread softly Caliban should make exaggerated tip toeing footsteps and whisper everything he says. Whenever Stephano and Trinculo take clothes off the clothesline in the scene, Caliban should take it off them and tell them to hurry up.  These are most of the things that I as a director would say to the actor playing Caliban in these two scenes and hopefully my play would be a very good one.

Act 3, Scene 1 is a dramatic high point of the play, after which it has to be a tragedy Essay Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeares most famous tragedies, written in 1597. The story itself was not anything new or different, but the way Shakespeare wrote it was its gateway to its popularity. The original tale of Romeo and Juliet was composed in the form of a poem aptly named The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet which I have found was in itself a translation from a French short story by the 16th-century Italian writer Matteo Bandello. The poem which Shakespeare gathered his inspiration from was first published in 1562 and the story set over a period of four months. Shakespeares adaptation was placed over four days. This significantly heightens the tension involved in the play as everything happens so hastily. The story itself is about a young couple who met and fell in love despite belonging to feuding families. With the two lovers at the marrying age of fourteen immersed in violence, hatred and hostility the play captivated the audience at the time including Queen Elizabeth I, the protestant queen. The drama is also engrossed in history, being considerably biased towards protestant followers and showing the Catholics in the play as untrustworthy, A good example being Friar Lawrence, a catholic priest who is portrayed as deceitful and dubious after marrying Romeo and Juliet in secret. This essay will show how Act 3, Scene 1 becomes the pivotal scene in the play whilst being the most dramatic. Before this scene the audience find out about the rivalry involved between the two families and the meeting of Romeo and Juliet. Overall the tone of the play is a lighter one before act 3, scene 1 (this scene being the crucial element that changes the direction of the play into a tragedy). In Act 2, Scene 6 Romeo and Juliet become married. This evidently should be a joyous occasion, as the audience believe it to be. A sense of foreboding lurks in this scene though when Friar Lawrence exclaims these violent delights have violent ends This signifies that although Romeo and Juliet are overjoyed, their relationship is bounded in too much violence and hatred for it to be a prolonged bond and is likely to end in disaster. The beginning of Act 3, scene 1, shows a group of Montagues in Verona on a disturbingly hot day. Benvolio, acting the rational character, cries blood stirs on this hot day. He knows people will be easily provoked due to the agitating weather. Mercutios character differs to Benvolio though as he is a more aggressive individual contrasting with the other side of his personality, his comical side. He will play a role in the blood stirring that Benvolio talks about earlier on in the scene when he provokes Tybalt with such taunts as heres my fiddlestick, heres that shall make you dance. There is an impression of foreboding of death as well when Mercutio declares for one would kill the other which creates tension on Mercutios part. Before Tybalt enters the scene there is anticipation in the audience. When Tybalt enters the scene in act 3 scene 1, his presence brings anger and revenge into the setting. Beforehand the atmosphere is slightly cheerful, but with a sense of foreboding and expectance of a confrontation lingering in the scene. Tybalt Capulet, the cause of the confrontation is obviously a Capulet. He is apparently Juliets cousin and kinsman but also the nephew of lady Capulet. His family connections provide him with a lead role in the rivalry between the two families and make him rather patriotic (which could also be interpreted as ignorant). In this scene he is shown as extremely aggressive and antagonistic, clearly looking for revenge on Romeo for appearing at the Capulets party uninvited, when he was restrained from brawling with Romeo there and then. He does not yet know of the secret bonding of his cousin and his enemy and approaches the Montagues with dramatic irony plaguing the scene. When he finds Romeo is missing from the group he tries to negotiate with the Mont agues. When attempting to do this he is taunted by Mercutio. In his last appearance in this scene Benvolio advises Romeo to leave the setting, with Romeo exclaiming before he departs O, I am fortunes fool-meaning that the role of fate has destroyed Romeos life. The end of the scene hugely contrasts with the rest. During the confrontation the writing is fast paced and short sentences are used to make it snappy, compared to the end where the speech is large and the pace is slow. Approaching the end rhyming is also used for effect and to show formality. At one point a very dramatic statement is made by Lady Capulet O prince! O husband! O, the blood is spilled-increasing the drama greatly in this setting. In this scene Benvolio has little part in the argument, being responsible enough not to get involved but he has a big function in explaining the occurrences of the fateful incident. The scene is in Juliets bedroom where she awaits Romeo is quiet and emotional, hugely contrasting with the previous fight scene.
