Essay on Tips of Science of Memory - 865 Words

Yumeng Ma Psyc-101 Writing Assignment 1 From the reading of chapter 6 â€Å"Tips from the Science of Memory—for Studying and for Life†, I learned the science of memory and how to make my memory more effective. The main idea in this section is about how to memorize scientifically. No matter what model of memory we use, we can sharpen your memory by thinking deeply about the â€Å"material† of life and connecting the information to other things we know. Perhaps the one most well connected node or most elaborate schema to which we can relate something is the self—what we know and think about ourselves. Experiencing everyday life in its richness requires us to be attentive and engaged. Sometimes the daily chores and hassles of life lead us to feel that we are just going through the motions. This sort of mindless living may be a way to survive, but it is unlikely to be a way to thrive. I find an article from Hilgard, Ernest R, Methods and procedures in the study of learning. Contra by Vampire Weekend free essay sample

What comes to mind when you hear the word vampire? A certain marble-skinned, sparkling member of the living undead? In fact, Im referring to the Polo-wearing, Ivy League-bred, indie boys of Vampire Weekend. After garnering both popular and critical acclaim with their self-titled debut two years ago, they are back with the highly anticipated â€Å"Contra.† Vampire Weekends debut still remains the gold standard and is nearly impossible to surpass. But with â€Å"Contra,† the group doesnt even try to mimic their previous style. Electronic rhythms are present throughout (thanks to band member Rostam Batmanglijs work in his side project, Discovery) along with traces of reggae, calypso, and even ska. Sure, theyre still lashing out against rich snobs, but its in a style that effortlessly blends modern with traditional. There are glimpses of the old Vampire Weekend, especially in the vibrant, falsetto-filled â€Å"White Sky† and the summery track â€Å"Horchata,† with its whimsical keyboard and playful lyrics. We will write a custom essay sample on Contra by Vampire Weekend or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page However, the fast-paced â€Å"Cousins† marks the bands transition. With irregular bursts of bass and an energetic guitar line, it could be the next â€Å"A-punk† except for the punk vibe it gives off. And although â€Å"California English† might seem like another â€Å"Oxford Comma,† when the auto-tune kicks in, it is clear this is a new Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend also cast away their happy-go-lucky image with the introduction of two ballads. The heartfelt â€Å"Taxi Cab† is a beautiful apology, filled with delicate keyboard and orchestral crescendos. This melancholy mood repeats in the closer, â€Å"I think UR a Contra.† Though the song sounds more like the Dirty Projectors than Vampire Weekend, lead singer Ezra Koenigs mournful vocals stop you from pressing the â€Å"Skip† button. Contra, a neutral word, suggests conflict but does not define either side as good or bad. This is reflected in the song as the mood shifts between hopeful and dejected. Its safe to say that Vampire Weekend is one of the music industrys most unique bands. They have a style that is undeniably theirs; no other band has dared to imitate it because they just cant pull it off. What ultimately endears them to fans is that they are willing to experiment instead of just churning out variations of old hits. In â€Å"Contra,† Vampire Weekend gives us what we want and more. The hooks are catchier, the rhymes are crazier, and with its synth loops and dancehall beats, â€Å"Contra† proves that the dorky, prep-school boys of Vampire Weekend will charm listeners for years to come.

To What Extent Would Drawing Up a Cash Flow Forecast Essay Example For Students

To What Extent Would Drawing Up a Cash Flow Forecast Essay These objectives may consist of a break even chart or in general, a strong positive cash flow. This can be achieved with having an organized cash flow forecast. It may be difficult for a new business to forecast sales because there is no previous data to base the predictions on. This means that it needs to be as accurate as possible however, you cannot predict the future so therefore the cash flow forecast is only as good as the sales prediction and as good as the cost estimates. In reality the predictions may not be true, This means that further down the line, the forecast may not be as accurate as originally thought when it was drawn up The main objective for the newly established businesses will be to survive as a business. Taking aside the short or long term success, surviving will be the main priority. Along with this, managing cash is also important. The cash flow forecast will enable the business owner to see how the cash is managed and Whether an overdraft from the bank is needed and if an overdraft facility s needed. We will write a custom essay on To What Extent Would Drawing Up a Cash Flow Forecast specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It will also highlight any immediate problems which will have to be sorted out. Another problem is that it doesnt tell you anything about profitability and focuses purely on cash so you dont really know a long term target. To overcome this I would suggest to draw up a Break-even plan as this focuses on sales and when losses turns into profit. This accompanied by a cash flow forecast would ensure an overall management and understanding of where the money coming in and out of the business is coming and going and in what quantity. To accompany these two documents, a business plan may be useful if the business owner was to go to a bank or potential investor, In conclusion, a cash flow forecast is a useful document as it shows where the expenditure for day to day expenses are going and where they are coming from. If one is accompanied by a break even plan (highlighting sales, profits and costs) and a business plan, there is an overall cash, cost and profit overview which can be managed. To What Extent Would Drawing Up a Cash Flow Forecast Increase the Chances of This Business Being Successful?

Essay on Ecommer Revolution

Essay on Ecommer Revolution Essay on Ecommer Revolution 4) Describe at least twelve major intermediate objectives the company set. Try to include objectives for most business functions, including marketing, human resources, finance, and operations. 1) Grab a chunk of the ecommerce revolution Obstacles: They needed to build their brand and market them self to the global market. 2) Buyer, seller, and banking relations during the transaction Obstacles: Smooth buyer, seller, and delivery process. Also they had to find a way to coordinate global banking between institutions. How other companies overcame this: Other companies do this by creating a notification system for both the buyer and supplier. An example of this is Amazon. When a person posts an item and a buyer is found a notification is sent to the supplier. The supplier than can cancel the order, purchase shipping or print a label on their own. Before, any money is exchanged shipping must be confirmed by the supplier and additional information must be given about the shipping. The site also allows for communication between the buyer and seller through a generic automated email system provided by Amazon so not personal information is given out. 3) Help develop and promote e-commerce payments platform Obstacles: Find banking institutions to work with them. Make global banking easier so there is not a delay between the buy and seller, especially in the Chinese market. 4) Move beyond fee-free service while retaining membership Obstacles: find a suitable price range to keep members. Offering enough so the customer is getting more than what they pay for. 5) Personnel retention Obstacles: Employees leaving to find better work. Becoming a short-term employment opportunity. How other companies overcame this: I know that companies like Dow Chemical and Dow Corning offer their employees lucrative stock options within the company. They also offer their employees great benefit packages. Also companies like Dow and most places of employment offer to pay for school but you have to sign a contract to work for the company longer. 6) Marketing push in China Obstacles: Branding themselves in the vast Chinese market. Setting themselves apart from the competitors that are already in the market. How other companies overcame this: Other companies do this by doing an extensive ad campaign before any product is sold in the market they want to join. They also become familiar with the business laws, practices and customs of the area. An example of this Sonic, the fast food company started to air television ads before they actually opened a restaurant in this area. This got people to start to talk about and look for the restaurant in the area. Also companies sign famous people to the market to promote their brand. More specifically companies such as Nike use famous people in the market to help them promote their brand, For example Yao Ming. 7) Generating more income Obstacles: Pricing of services and membership and finding additional financial backers to help them develop and expand their company. 8) Give a platform for SME to promote themselves broadly Obstacles:, SME’s generally cannot compete with the bigger companies How other companies overcame this: Other companies do this by offering advertisement space or web space for other companies to post information and products. They also allow for a â€Å"let a friend know feature† so someone can share the business to another person. A company like Facebook offers advertisement space for companies to post their information. It also allows for companies to construct a web page so other people can view it or find a link that takes them directly to their official site. It also allows for a person to see
